Minetest
Minetest is a FOSS voxel baised game engine. It's like minecraft, but better.[1] It contains lots community created games, and mods for the games, for all sorts of things.
Here are some stories/thoughts from the games.
Techage is a complex, tech-baised progersson mod. I'm still in TA1, but i already see the complexity, with multiblocks, like realistic charcoal kilns and the melter. But in the later stages, i'm worried that the buildings might take too much mineing to build and the game will become a grind.
Update: i haved advenced to TA3 and i'm now dealing with oil. I also dug a 1.2Km deep mineshft that was immediately rendred pointless by TA2 gravel sieving.
Mineclone is a game that aims to mimic minecraft. I think of minetest as its own thing, unrelated to minetest, os this game would otherwise be pointless, if it wern't for two things: Hostile and passive mobs and generated structures. There may be mods that add this to the minetest base game, but if there are, i haven't seen them. I do have a mineclone world as my main world, for these reasons (aside from my techage world).
Minecraft
In addition to minetest, i have now tried minecraft. I think of the games separately, with each doing a diffrent thing, minetest being a game engine and minecraft being it's own game.
Anyways, here's my WIP minecraft house
Other games
Thrive is a highly realistic evolution game. Currently, only the microscpoic cell stage is done, but it already a fun experance as-is. As a fan fo science i really like this game.
